Quick answer
In South Australia in 2026, the main support for a home battery is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, which applies in SA on the same terms as everywhere else. The SA Home Battery Scheme is closed. Separately, connecting a battery to an approved virtual power plant is an activity under the state's Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS), offered through REPS activity providers.
What has changed for SA batteries?
South Australia had its own Home Battery Scheme. It has closed, and new applications are not being accepted. Older pages online still mention it, so check the date on anything you read.
What can SA households get now?
The federal discount. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies in SA exactly as in other states: the discount is worked out from the battery's usable capacity and the STC factor on the date the battery is installed and certified. Our battery rebates 2026 guide has the rates, the size table and the install-date rule.
The REPS VPP activity. The Retailer Energy Productivity Scheme (REPS) requires energy retailers to deliver energy activities to households. One listed activity, VPP1, covers connecting a new or existing battery to an approved virtual power plant. It is delivered through REPS activity providers, not by applying to the government.
Who qualifies for the REPS VPP activity?
That depends on the provider and on REPS rules, which include targets for priority-group households (for example, households on payment plans or hardship programs). Consumer articles give different answers about who is eligible and how much is offered, so we don't quote a figure. Check with an activity provider listed by ESCOSA.
What about prices in Adelaide?

A real example
We installed 13.2 kW of Canadian Solar panels with a 24 kWh Sigenergy battery in Seacliff Park, one of our Adelaide installs. The federal discount applied in SA on the same terms as anywhere else in Australia.
